4 Healthy Eating New Years Resolutions

By Victoria McGee

At Christmas and this time of year, we love to indulge in every food under the sun but starting the New Year you want to change. After all that Christmas dinner and leftovers I have the perfect way to lose that weight fast and eat healthy this new years. As well as following this diet routine I also suggest doing workout in your room and going for short runs everyday.

So, here are 4 healthy new years resolutions you will want to follow:

Resolution #1: Smoothies

I found that a great way to get all the nutrition you need but still keep that weight off is to make a smoothie for breakfast. Not all is it healthy but also fills you up until lunchtime. You can also drink it throughout the day if necessary. One of my favourite smoothies includes: Rolled Oats, Protein Powder, Low Fat yoghurt, Almond Milk, Banana and Honey. I normally suggest this as an after workout drink. Another recipes that I suggest is 1 cup plain nonfat yogurt, 1 banana, ½ cup orange juice, 6 frozen strawberries. This reciepe is great for healthy new years indulging.

Resolution #2: Breakfast for Lunch

When I first wanted to go on a diet, I decided to take part in a porridge diet. This is where you eat porridge for lunch, it is a great source of energy as well as being low in calories. I normally eat Quaker Oats porridge. The plain is the best for low in calories but if you don’t like a plain taste, I normally add honey to the porridge too. If you don’t enjoy honey and plain porridge I would really recommend the golden syrup or cinnamon flavours from the same company. I would also suggest MOMA porridge, this is a great brand and as well as producing sachets that you can get in big boxes, they also produce on to go pots these are great for taking to work.

Another great option for your healthy new years lunch is low fat yoghurt with honey and granola. I suggest buying a plain low fat yoghurt that you can get from any supermarket. Also to give the yoghurt flavour I suggest adding honey to it. I love granola but it does contain a lot of sugar so if you can to the supermarket compare fat and sugar contents on the packets. If you don’t want to eat granola or don’t like it museli is a great alternative and healthier. My favour yoghurt is from the Collective and also Rachel’s.

Resolution #3: Homemade Dinners

Here is another great new year dieting tip, after having porridge for lunch I would always come home in an evening and cook a healthy dinner. This normally included fish or vegetable as this is a great source of protein and vegetables are all mainly low in calories.

Resolution #4: Green Tea

Green tea is great dieting ingredient and healthy new year resolution. Green Tea is a great idea to drink after dinner or before you go to bed. In order to burn fat, it must first be broken down in the fat cell and moved into the bloodstream. The active compounds in green tea can aid in this process by boosting the effects of some fat burning hormones. The end result is that the fat cell breaks down more fat, which is released into the bloodstream and becomes available for use as energy by cells that need it, like muscle cells.
